Development

Development at JQ is about more than just technical expertise; we value your professional and personal goals and work together to help you achieve them. Our goal is to identify your career path and give you the tools and resources needed to continually develop and grow.

Mentor/Protégé Program

At JQ you will be collaborating and learning from your peers on a day to day basis. To help expand that growth, we created the Mentor/Protégé Program. Working one on one with a matched mentor, proteges are able to develop a deeper understanding of the A/E/C industry and develop a wider network of contacts. The meetings are structured to fit your individual needs, goals, interests and expertise.

JQ University (JQU)

Our monthly presentations include both technical and non-technical training and cover topics relevant to our company and the A/E/C industry. Topics range from finding your personal brand, to learning best practices for project photography, developing communication and client management skills, and the process of scope and fee development. Given that we aren’t experts in everything, we also bring in thought leaders to train our teams on soft skills, leadership and project management.

Technical Training

Our internal formal training seminars are customized to skill set and experience. For example, the training for entry-level design engineers may focus on company standards and software, while the project manager training could help staff understand the proposal process, fee development and budget tracking. Our training programs are constantly improved and tweaked based on needs, wants and staff feedback. Teams hold monthly technical lunches to provide a scheduled time where topics or case studies are discussed in a smaller group setting. JQ provides access to monthly webinars that cover a variety of technical design topics and our engineers have access to many on-demand webinars. JQ also supports involvement in professional societies and attendance at technical presentations through a variety of professional organizations.

Leadership Track

JQ recognizes that identifying and training the future leaders of the firm is essential to the long-term success of the company. Our APP (Associate, Principal, Partner) Program lays out criteria for the selection, associated responsibilities and increased recognition and benefits for different stages of professional growth within the company. Our goal is to recognize and promote staff who consistently demonstrate the desire, skills, and leadership to take on firm-wide responsibilities, whether it be engineering and technical skills or administration and marketing.
