Cotton Bowl Improvements, Phase I and II, Fair Park

City of Dallas

In Phase I, JQ was involved in a thorough structural assessment of the 75,522-seat stadium structure, including both visual and material testing. Concrete core samples were extracted at several locations. Compressive tests were performed on several core samples, while others were analyzed petrographically. Based on the assessment, repair documents were prepared to remediate structural deficiencies, including a polymer-modified overlay for all on-grade sections of the seating area. In addition, a new waterproofing traffic coating was specified for the upper surface of all structured seating areas and the main concourse, as well as the replacement of all expansion joints. In Phase II, JQ was involved in expanding the stadium’s seating capacity by approximately 15,000, as well as the creation of new amenity spaces, improvements to ingress and egress, enlargement of team locker rooms, creation of a new media center and upgrades to the site sanitary sewer system.
