Jaime D. Padron Elementary School
Austin ISD
This project represents the first-ever adaptive reuse elementary school for the Austin (Texas) Independent School District. School functions were carefully incorporated into an existing single-story industrial manufacturing and warehouse building. To meet program requirements, an entire second floor of classroom space was shoe-horned into the existing building. Because the existing structure was not capable of supporting a new floor, the new structural steel and concrete floor slab system is structurally independent of the existing columns and foundation.
