Caldwell County Justice Center Adaptive Reuse
Caldwell County
The project involved the adaptive reuse of a former 50,000 SF Wal-Mart into the Caldwell County Judicial Center. The new facility contains multiple courtrooms, judicial chambers and other administrative spaces. Certain interior areas required new reinforced concrete foundations in order to support proposed security cells built with solid grouted CMU walls. The exterior renovation consists of an entire new HVAC system located on the roof and modifications to the existing façade, such as new access and egress doors cut into existing CMU walls. A new 35’ tall steel entry tower with flanking steel trellises was constructed to help symbolize the main entry to the new public building. A new sally port was added to the existing loading dock location to facilitate secure prisoner transfer.
