Pump Station No. 1, Elm Fork Water Treatment Plant

Dallas Water Utilities

JQ served as lead structural engineer for this 350 MGD pump station, providing both high service and low service distribution for the City of Dallas. Bordered by existing plant and DART rail facilities, the site posed challenging excavation and shoring design considerations for which JQ developed unique systems to minimize cost while improving construction site accessibility and safety. The high service pumps consist of 3,000-horsepower horizontal split case pumps with VFD motor control supported on operating floors at 40 feet below grade. The low service pumps are also split case pumps at 1,000 horsepower and serve plant filter backwash needs. Structural design included compression strut systems to minimize structural costs while maintaining full operations and mainenance access to the station.
