North Campus Outpatient Cancer Care and Brain Research Towers

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center

With a targeted focus on specialty care, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is establishing a complex focused on research, training, and clinical services related to the brain and cancer. Sharing a four-story footprint, one tower will house research efforts of the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute and the other tower will serve as outpatient clinical space for the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. The complex also includes a 1,200-space parking garage and is expected to be complete by mid-2022. As civil engineering consultant, JQ is tasked with designing the site layout and infrastructure. The vast 22-acre site includes a variety of civil features, including retaining walls, an underground detention structure, nearly a mile of storm piping, drainage structures, a complex network of existing utilities on site that require careful design and coordination, and extensive regrading to assure proper drainage for the site.
