Parts Distribution Center Slab Repairs

American Honda Motor Company

JQ performed an assessment of the various sections of settled slabs in the offices and warehouse of Honda’s facilities in Irving, Texas — some of which had settled as much as six inches. The firm determined that the downward movement of the slabs was related to desiccation of the underlying clay soils. JQ prepared construction documents for the repairs, which consisted of injecting a proprietary chemical into the underlying soils to reduce the shrink/swell potential of the clay soils. After geotechnical testing of the treated soils to verify the efficacy of the injection process, the slabs were raised using geopolymer injection. Repair work in the Parts Distribution Warehouse was performed in phases and after daily operation hours.
