Serving more than 7,000 students, the Center for Human Performance at Angelo State University’s mission is to engage the campus community in recreation and wellness programs while fostering social interaction, sportsmanship, and leadership development. This 15,700 SF expansion and 11,200 SF renovation of the existing facility was designed to accommodate academic and training activities in addition to recreation and fitness programs. The facility includes a cardio/weight room and a three-lane indoor track. Its most prominent features are a 40-foot tall rock climbing wall and bouldering structure. Firsts for the university, these elements have contributed to tripling the center’s utilization rates. The existing block and brick façade was replaced with a glass curtainwall allowing for maximum visibility into the highly utilized facility. JQ provided Structural and Civil Engineering and Survey services on the project.
