Located at one of the main entrances to the University, the Louise Herrington Patriot center is the focal point of campus. This 127,000 SF multi-functional facility contains a 3,500-seat performance arena. The arena also serves as a teaching space for court sports such as volleyball and basketball. There is also a 30,000 SF convocation center with three full basketball and volleyball courts and chair back seating for 2,000 spectators. The two-level lobby is distinguished by natural light filtered through floor-to-ceiling windows. The Department of Health and Kinesiology has classrooms, seminar rooms, faculty office suites, and a 70-seat auditorium. Laboratories include biomechanics and anatomy, anatomical kinesiology, motor control and learning, motor development and exercise physiology as well as a student computer laboratory. The Department of Recreational Sports oversees fitness, intramural and club sports, outdoor adventures and health and wellness education within the Center. Recreation components include fitness and weight space, racquetball courts, an aerobics studio, an outdoor leisure pool and locker rooms. JQ provided Structural Engineering Services on the Project.
