Center of Excellence for Energy Technology, South Campus

Tarrant County College District

The two-story, 89,000 SF facility was designed to house the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration program for the Tarrant County College District, as well as training programs for oil, gas and renewable energy technologies. With goals of LEED Platinum status and net zero energy, the Energy Technology Center will operate as a high-performance building and be a living, teaching and learning laboratory. The building’s structure and HVAC systems were largely left exposed to allow students to observe the systems, thus doubling as a teaching tool. Digital displays are provided around the building to provide real-time information about the building’s performance. The building also contains public gathering spaces, lecture halls, administrative offices, collaborative learning environments and exterior photovoltaic canopies for on-site power generation.
