Whitley Residence Hall, Texas A&M Commerce University
A significant wind event caused a section of brick masonry veneer to become detached from the Penthouse Level of the 12-story Whitley Residence Hall. JQ was asked to assess the damage, and evaluate the condition of the masonry veneer on the remainder of the building. It was determined that the failed section of masonry lacked adequate brick ties which serve to anchor the brick veneer to the back-up wall. The absence of proper flashing and weep systems resulted in significant corrosion of supporting shelf angles at each floor level.
