Steve Lucy was part of a group that was asked by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to go to Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Beaumont, Texas, to review historic properties that had been damaged in the storm. They spent two days in Lake Charles reviewing commercial and residential properties and taking part in a panel discussion at a town meeting with residents who had questions about their houses. Then they spent one day in Beaumont reviewing commercial properties. The reviews in both cities were for buildings in designated historic areas and all properties were listed on the National Historic Register.
The team also included Marcel Quimby, an architect in Dallas, and Daniel Carey, the head of the Southwest Office of the National Trust in Fort Worth. All of Steve’s time was donated.
